There always, inevitably, comes a time when you have to take stock in yourself and determine what you really believe in. Words are always the cheapest thing we have to offer – what you know about yourself is immensely valuable.
There are certain things that I believe in fully. I believe that rain comes from the clouds, that the sun is the primary source of our heat, and that babies grow up to be adults. These are constants, inarguable, things that everyone can believe in.
And, oh yeah, something I forgot – THE IRS DOES NOT TARGET AND HARRASS PEOPLE OF A CERTAIN IDEOLOGY. That is also a constant, inarguable, and something that everyone should agree with.
No one from the left gets a pass on this one. Stand up for what is right. Either you think that what the IRS has been involved in is absolutely un-American or you don’t. Which is it? There is no double-standard; there should be no difference whether you have a D on your sweater vest or an R. What happened is just plain wrong, regardless of party affiliation.
Unfortunately, as it stands I hear very little outrage from the left, and what I do hear seems kind of muted and only for show. There are those that are blaming the victim. There are those that are sticking to talking points (“rogue” elements) that they themselves know are inaccurate. Ladies and gentlemen, this cannot be.
The IRS is a huge and powerful organization. Use your imagination – if they had a mind to do it, what harm could they cause you, your family, or your business? Who exactly who would you fight if the charges they leveled against you were bogus? Do you have the financial means to challenge a government entity?
The key to all of this is “if they had a mind to”. To some people out there, the latest trespasses levied against the IRS are no big deal, because they are only going after people they disagree with.
If that is you, then you do not deserve to be called an American. You are nothing more than a “good German” – you know, the kind that really didn’t have a problem with the government treating people unfairly, because they were only Jews after all. Your attitude is reprehensible.
Tell me this – what would be happening if it was determined the IRS was targeting liberal groups during George W Bush’s re-election campaign? Do you think there might be a little bit of outrage? Just maybe?
Here is the difference – if I heard that GWB, or his administration, were doing that I would quickly – and loudly – say that that is BS, it is wrong, and certain people need to lose their careers over it. There would not be any slack because the perpetrator is a Republican. Wrong is wrong, there is no change depending on who holds the office.
Draw the line. Stand up for what is right. Defend a fellow American, even if you don’t agree with their viewpoint.
Otherwise, genießen sie die zukunft, schweinen.
